Penang’s MAMPAN directory: choose the material before choosing a drop-off point

The nearest point on a recycling map may not be the right destination for the item you want to take there. Penang Green Council’s MAMPAN directory describes a category-first search and asks users to inspect a listing’s remarks. That is a practical starting point for a household drop-off plan.

The documented search sequence

The MAMPAN instructions describe selecting a category, finding a point through the name panel or location map, then checking contact details and special remarks. The directory covers initiatives such as recycling, reuse and repair, rather than only one type of collection point.

We read those instructions but did not verify an individual facility’s current acceptance conditions. A map entry is a lead for further checking, not confirmation that the item can be left there today.

Describe the item without guessing its category

Write down what you actually have and the question you need the facility to answer. An electrical item, clothing and a household container can require different destinations. If the category is unclear, ask the listed facility instead of assuming every location takes mixed materials.

Keep a larger quantity or unusual condition in the inquiry. A listing for a service does not establish unlimited capacity or an arrangement for every household item.

Read the remarks before making the journey

Record the specific listing and any stated conditions. Confirm current operating hours, accepted items and whether an appointment is needed through the facility’s legitimate channel. Do not turn a directory entry into a price, collection guarantee or environmental certification.

The location also matters: Penang includes island and mainland destinations. Plan the actual trip to the selected point rather than choosing solely by the first familiar place name in a search.

Retain a record of the confirmed arrangement

If a facility confirms acceptance, keep the date and scope of that response with the listing. A response about one item should not be rewritten as a general statement about all materials or future visits.

This article gives no disposal, dismantling or hazardous-material handling instructions. When an item needs specialist advice, follow the appropriate authorised service rather than adapting a general directory guide.

Editorial assessment: category, listing remarks and a current facility check belong before the travel decision. Source checked on 13 October 2026. No site visit, facility audit, drop-off test or individual business endorsement is claimed.
